项目

xiàngmù - item, project, sports event

Another Smart.fm word, and one that reminds me of 目前, which I wrote about last week. It seems that 目 has been confusing me because I only know that it means 'eye'. According to MDBG, it can also mean item, section, list, catalogue, table of contents, order (taxonomy), goal, name, title. So quite a range of generic meanings. The other character is 项, which I also only recently learnt on Smart.fm; it's another generic word meaning item or thing.

项目 is also a good science word and will be useful if I ever decide to translate this website in Chinese, which is tempting.
