消

xiāo - disappear; to spend (time), consume; need; news

I chose this word today because I found, when I opened my presentation for tomorrow, that all but two of the images had disappeared. In all three copies of the presentation that I had. Actually, all the images were still there, but appeared completely blank. I then spent the rest of the day adding the images back in and making images of all the slides, so that I could still do the presentation if the images disappeared again. I still don't know why it happened.

I have come across 消 before, in Smart.fm, of course, originally in the work for news, 消息, but later as a single character meaning 'disappear'. It is yet another character with several very different meanings.
