掐
- pinch, pick (flowers)
I heard this word on a Popup Chinese podcast and realised it was the first time I'd heard a Chinese word with the sound 'qia'. MDBG confirms that there are very few 'qia' words and this is the only one with a first tone. Interestingly, 卡, which I had learnt has being pronounced kǎ, can also be pronounced qiǎ.
她掐了他胳膊一下, 把他叫醒.
She gave him a pinch on the arm to wake him up.
