biànyì - variation

Today I worked on getting my SGF parser to understand move variations. I'm slowly getting there. I like the character 异 - I think I have come across in a couple of scientific word, though I can't remember which. The sentence below seems perfect for me.

放射线引起植物变异已在实验中被证实。
The mutations in plants caused by radiation have been found in experiments.
